About OCD

Obsessions are unwelcome thoughts or images or feelings that intrude repetitiously or lingeringly into the normal, healthy flow of the mind and cause or reflect anxiety. Compulsions are the ritual behaviors, mental or physical, which respond to these obsessions and are intended to rid the mind of them and of the anxiety accompanying them.

Studies have determined that 1 out of every 40 adults suffers from OCD, and 1 out of every 200 children. Left untreated, the disorder may interfere significantly with one’s personal, social, and educational/professional life, reducing fulfillment and well being in these areas and often leading to chronic depression.  To learn more about OCD click the links in the column to the left and please visit the website of the National Obsessive-Compulsive Foundation.
